The ELM tree is a 20 million year old tree that is now dying off from Dutch Elm Disease. Work ethic is also a dying breed. Scientists are helping the Elm tree and we are using PCA along with Data Science to apply ELM to our players work ethic/habits toward mastery.
  • Effort-Learn-Mistakes okay
A mastery approach focuses on effort, learning, and recovery of mistakes (using it to learn  from and set smart boundaries). Great outcomes begin with great work habits; effort-learning-making mistakes and adding the success element by finishing. Training on the edge is failing and learning. Only that approach will allow you to leave it all on the field and reach your potential.

Mastery of ELM also includes valuing your ROOTS. =>Respect:
  • Rules-Opponents-
  • Officials-Teammates-Self
Honoring the game is the root to the Mastery of Elm. Without respect there is no honor. With no honor, there is no value to your effort (or to winning).

As a member of FC7Soccer® Club7 and our PlayElite™ Development Academy, you are a PCA Triple Impact Competitor™ and you abide by the code to "Honor the Game"™ and respect the ROOTS as a part of your quest to "Catch Excellence"™ and to Play Elite™ when you wear the shield as you strive toward mastery in life and on the pitch.

The Double-Goal Coach, who strives to win while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports;
  1. Be a positive role model for your students.
  2. Help players excel at their sport and at every-level.
  3. Treat players with respect and encourage them as they learn.
  4. Be a clear and consistent communicator. Listen too.
  5. Create an environment that is safe for players to give effort, fail-fast, and learn from their mistakes to grow.
  • The key to performance and success is teaching players to focus on what they can control, what is important to them, and to focus on learning the processes with positive reinforcement best practices.
Teaching athletes winning is neither everything nor the only thing is a big part of PCA. Winning is one target, but doesn't always happen. Keeping positive, confident, and learning from each experience is invaluable to the the player journey. Having a good attitude and moving on will help develop a great aptitude for your child in both sports and life. You cannot win every battle and if you did you would never appreciate nor experience what it takes to be a true champion.

The Second-Goal Parent™, who concentrates on life lessons, while letting coaches and athletes focus on competing.
  • Do not coach from the sidelines (cheer and encourage - video to watch at home).
  • Do not disrespect the officials, the coach or the opposing fans
  • Surround kids with positive role models.
  • Ensure that sports are an extension of the things you value at home, such as integrity, effort and sportsmanship.
  • Value their effort, focus on the process of learning and the outcome that goes with them, not just the results.
  • Be patient, as talent development is at times challenging and takes some time. Help them through the processes at home too.
  • Please do not interfere with coach-player relationship (unless it is unsafe). Adversity comes from change. It's a good challenge.
  • Support your coaches and do not micromanage every aspect of your kid’s teams, practices, games, etc..
  •
  • Great coaches can change a child’s life for the better if we let them do their work. You can and should ask questions. Be smart when asking what-where-when questions.
  • Winning is neither everything or the only thing but will be incorporated in to games for the right age groups. You actually learn more from mistakes and occasionally losing.
The Triple-Impact Competitor™, who strives to impact the sport on three levels by improving one's self, teammates, and the game.
  • No entitlement attitudes. Learn how to earn what you get -on the battlefield and in life.
  • Show up early and stay late, outwork your teammates and your opponent, and expect nothing but the opportunity to compete.
  • Learn to be a teammate who focuses on what he/she can give, instead of what he/she can get.
  • Thank a coach who never lets you give less than your best and challenges you to do so.
  • Be patient and embrace the struggle of learning.
  • Learn how to treat people with dignity and respect -then do so, even under the pressure of competition. Honor your opponent after the battle; win, lose, or draw.
  • The scoreboard is an important part of youth sports….but is only a part of it. Learning the processes of the game and putting them to action is where success will be waiting.

PictureTriple Impact Competitors™
We are asking our players and their parents to engage with us to implement this mindset into each player's behavior and attitude. It is central to our growth mindset/PCA culture. Parents may help by taking this to heart and taking action on each of the executables especially during our academy training, at team practices, and at games. Be a Triple Impact Competitor™ with us at FC7Soccer® Development Academy™ in the LAFC™ grassroots program.

Definition: a
Triple Impact Competitor™ is an athlete who works to improve oneself, teammates, and the game as a whole. These individuals play a special role in Positive Coaching Alliance's mission to youth and high school sports into a Development Zone™ developing better athletes and better people.

Being a Triple Impact Competitor® is not easy. It requires commitment and sacrifice. Your mission as a player and member of FC7Soccer® is to strive to become a Triple Impact Competitor™ before-after-during; every academy training, team practice, and game. Here are the three levels you must execute to become a Triple Impact Competitor™:

1.) SELF
  • A Triple Impact Competitor® is committed to improving herself/himself, always looking for ways to perform better.
2.) TEAMMATES
  • A Triple Impact Competitor® helps their teammates through positive reinforcement and by prioritizing team success over individual accolades. It is hard to look beyond one's self, but a Triple Impact Competitor® focuses on helping others.
3.) THE GAME
  • Showing respect for the rules -on and off the field- and being respectful with your words and actions to opponents, teammates, officials, coaches, parents, teachers, others, and one's self, a Triple Impact Competitor® strives to make the game better and their quality of life/relationships too.

Nicky Pickering, ECNL
There are a lot of smart people behind the Positive Coaching Alliance, just as there are with FC7Soccer® and Legends FC™. A Growth Mindset is at the core of our culture. A Growth Mindset is also the basic core principles, philosophies, and values set by PCA and the Legends FC™ family. We are delivering them to your children, our players, through certified instruction and as U.S. Soccer Licensed coaches. These values are life skills and values for ensuring they are in service of others and they bring success in all that they do. It really does take a village to raise a child -especially now with the amount of socialisation online and readily access to it through the internet. We ask that you as a family, align with us on the PCA principles and the values of positive learning -a Growth Mindset. We welcome your feedback. -FC7Soccer® Mgmt.
